CHICAGO, IL With the April 2nd run-off election rapidly approaching, Committeeman Stephanie Coleman continues to receive an outpouring of love and support from 16th ward residents who she fondly refers to as ‘seasoned’.

At the headquarters, located 5411 South Ashland and busy with the usual campaign activities, you will find these residents phone banking, preparing lunch for volunteers, or just dropping by to wish the candidate well. Many of them are familiar with Coleman, who was born and raised in Englewood, and watched her grow up alongside her parents Rev. David Coleman and retired Alderman Shirley Coleman.

The ‘seasoned’ residents appreciate the many activities and events that Coleman sponsors as 16th ward Committeeman. Whether it is a Valentine’s Day luncheon or community breakfasts, Coleman takes the time to speak with each of them. She is known to send a card, call or even visit them on their anniversaries and birthdays. The ‘seasoned’ voters are the largest group in the 16th ward that turn out to vote. Many have already contacted Coleman’s office for absentee ballot applications or to get a ride to the polls for early voting.

“Stephanie treats people wonderfully. I have watched her grow to be a fine young lady and as an alderman she will do her best to look out for every one of us”, says Shelia Richards, 69 “ I voted for her early in February and I will vote for her early for the April 2nd run-off.”

Lillian McClendon, 73, said, “I love the word ‘seasoned’ that she calls us. Stephanie takes the time to make sure we have information about voting and I know when she becomes the alderman she will make sure we know what is going on downtown and what is going on in the community.”

Coleman is a familiar face and is often greeted with “Hello, daughter”, as she canvasses the neighborhood. During most stops she can be seen taking 311 requests or catching up with residents who remember her mother’s 16 years of service as the former alderman.

Politicos are calling Coleman the front runner because the 16th ward voters elected Coleman over the incumbent in 2016 for the committeeman seat and in the February 26th municipal election Coleman received the majority of the votes among 5 other candidates.

As alderman, Coleman says she plans to establish a “Seasoned’ 16th Ward Resident Group to advise her on the needs and interests of ‘seasoned’ residents; to promote an understanding of City Council policies and procedures among them, and to encourage participation in 16 ward resident activities.

“I am standing on the shoulders of those who sacrificed so much for our community”, remarked Coleman “I will continue to love them, acknowledge them and I will be a strong advocate for them in Chicago City Council.”
